About Holy Discontent
Holy Discontent is an interesting title for a podcast.
The apostle Paul tells us that he learned how to be content no matter the circumstance. His secret? He was content in Jesus, not his circumstances. We should all strive for that and not be discontent with our circumstances. If we manage that, we will look radically different from the world who dosn't know Jesus. Yet.
Holy discontent is a different kind of discontent. It seeks to include both Paul's contentment in Christ with his call for perfection in Jesus, to seek all that Christ has for us...the life in Christ that is by far the most common way the New Testament describes people who believe in, and follow Jesus.
To not settle for a paltry life of trying to please Jesus with good deeds.
To not try to set up guidelines or rules of "do's and don'ts".
To not be so afraid of sin that we forget the power and joy of living in Jesus.
To not miss the beauty of what Paul called the "breadth, width, height and depth of the love of Christ" that surpasses all understanding.
The doctrine of Holiness has many names in the Christian tradition: Christian Perfection, Second-Baptism in the Holy Spirit, the Full Salvation in Jesus, and many others. Though Biblical, they are not the most important part. In fact, sometimes the can obscure the very thing they speak of, namely the fullness of Jesus.
The experience promised in the Bible is that, by the Holy Spirit, normal people can be filled with the love and life of Jesus to such an extent that "we no longer live, but Christ lives in us".

My name is Andreas Kjernald and I have been a pastor in the Methodist movement for almost 20 years. I currently serve in the Global Methodist Church in North Carolina, USA. The doctrine of Christian Perfection/Holiness is one of my favorites and foundational to the Biblical witness of the Good News.
I have been fortunate enough to be surrounded by some of the giants of this ancient, yet ever-new movement of the Holy Spirit, and I believe God is calling us to a living life in Jesus filled with His love.
